Born and raised on the mean streets of Newcastle, Rahkty, AKA Ra, started his musical journey when he was 14, when he stole a jungle mania tape from Jeremy Kyle. It was at this moment that Ra knew he wanted to be part of ‘The Scene’.
He first became interested in the electronic music scene in 1994. In 1994, aged 14, his Mum and Dad bought him his first set of turntables. At the age of 17, he was already being touted as Newcastle’s answer to Fabio. He did various warm up sets before the doors opened in clubs hosting major names such as Fabio, DJ Hype, Miss Represent, and many more. In 1999, he achieved his big break when he went to enough of Tony Colman’s DJ gigs in Newcastle, where his intense gaze finally drew Tony into making conversation. It was after this point when he started getting gigs at big events such as dawn of the dance and granny’s Sunday brunch.
After receiving several offers, Rahkty joined EasyGetMe Recordings, who helped distribute his first internet release, ‘Run Sideways’ in 2000. Though the single didn’t sell as many as he probably would have liked, Rahkty is a fighter and since 2016 has been locked in the studio perfecting his craft.
Suffice to say, the music scene should be expecting big things from Rahkty in 2017.
